In my opinion, there are already a fierce war on Tablet PC’s chipset/processor but it seems awkward since there is no the biggest computer chipset player, Intel, on it. So, I am always waiting when Intel will force its way into Tablet PC business since I believe the Tablet PC business is too beneficial to avoid. And now, finally, Intel Corp. has announced its new chipset for Tablet PC. Intel as the biggest computer’s chipset vendor, will become a serious contender for the old players such as Qualcomm, ARM, Nvdia, Broadcomm, Apple, and Texas Instrument.
This Tablet Computer specialized Intel chipset may start a new era on the Tablet PC business specially – or on the mobile gadgets generally. For information, Intel’s chipset dominates 80% market sharers for laptops and desktop PCs but still there is no success on mobile gadgets such as cell phones and Tablet computers. It is more because Intel hasn’t been focus to create the specialized mobile chipset before. The current Intel’s chipset is known as fast chipset but greedy on power consumption which is a big no for mobile usage.
Yeah, it is natural since Intel never intend their chipset for mobile usage so the power efficiency is never become priority. But, since Tablet PC business is growth exponential these days, Intel corp. cannot close its eyes if want to increase its benefits. It is hard to depend on Laptop or Desktop PC since the market has been stagnant. It is mobile (specially Tablet computer) era. As far as I know, there are many people choose to buy the Tablet computer instead upgrade their Personal Computer. So, It seems a must that Intel focus on how to create a power efficiency chipset that perfect for Tablet PC.
It is surely a good decision that Intel start to focus on Tablet PC’s chipset since as mentioned before, PC will be replaced by Tablet computer in near future. At least, it is a good way to diversify the income resources. As mentioned before, for this, Intel Corp. has to create a new chipset since its current chipset is too power-hungry to be used on Tablet computer. Intel has claimed that there are already 35 Tablet PCs and Hybrid computers that use this newest Intel chipset which is also known as x86 design. This Intel’s Tablet PC chipset is a part of Intel Atom family chipset.
There are split opinion about the Intel’s prospect on mobile market – especially on the most growth mobile market, Tablet PC market. Some of them say that Intel is too late so it is hard to be success but some of them believe that Intel can dominate the market based on the Intel’s long experience on the computer market. For me, it is interesting to see how Intel will make its way of success or fail in the Tablet PC market. May be on the next year, we can say it is a success or a failure. For now, let’s just watch this interesting move of Intel Corp.
